The menu, though limited, showcases the essence of home-cooked Japanese cuisine with options that are sure to satiate your midday cravings. Signature highlights include the Mushroom & Cheese and the Vegetable Curry, both delivering layers of flavor that dance on your palate. Imagine savoring the rich, earthy notes of mushrooms perfectly melded with creamy cheese, all tied together with a hint of nostalgia. The Vegetable Curry is equally enchanting, offering a symphony of vibrant vegetables simmered in aromatic spices, served alongside a refreshing salad and a slice of sweet orange that elevates the dish. All this for around JPY 1500 makes it an affordable yet delightful indulgence.

Insider tip: Though some visitors have mentioned a lack of variety in drinks—primarily being limited to tea, coffee, and water—it's worth appreciating the quality of each offering. A freshly brewed cup of black coffee is perfect to sip while gazing out at the quaint surroundings, adding a peaceful rhythm to your dining experience.

The café's ambiance enhances the overall experience, characterized by its cozy and inviting décor adorned with quaint artistic touches. Soft jazz music plays in the background, creating a relaxing atmosphere perfect for unwinding. One reviewer, 'o wu (shobon dama),' appreciated these small yet meaningful details, emphasizing the café's charm and excellent air quality thanks to the little things, like air fresheners. Although it may not have been a five-star dining experience in terms of menu choices, many find solace in its warm, welcoming environment.

While the Taisho Romantic Black Boat Shop may be excellent for a casual lunch or an afternoon coffee break, it’s the personal touches, gentle service, and community vibe that will draw you in time and again. Had a quick lunch here and opted to try the Mushroom & Cheese and Vegetable curry options out of the three choices presented as the Lunch menu is limited with no Ramen, Gyoza or other dishes available. Also no Coke or other drinks available apart from strictly menu items (Tea, Coffee, Water etc.). The Curry set was not too bad for around JPY 1500 including Salad, a slice of Orange and your drink choice. Food came simmering hot like molten curried lava, but the taste was a little sweet and good. Portion size was decent and the set wasn't bad overall. Staff were friendly, helpful and polite despite our very basic Japanese and the menu also being all in Japanese. Nice, cozy atmosphere with good music.

It was the only restaurant open late at night. Food was okay. Serving bowl was unnecessarily huge as serving was small. Cozy ambiance with jazz music playing in background. We heard sound of microwave oven so possibly how the food was prepared.
